How Have You Used the “Magic Question” to Turn Your Experience Around?
In episode 50 of Inside Out Weight Loss (www.personallifemedia.com/iowl), I share two versions of the magic question that can turn your experience around, and start you attracting what you want, instead of what you don’t want. What’s this simple question? Perhaps its obvious, but when we are in the depths of dessert despair, nothing is obvious, except perhaps the location of the chocolate sprinkles.
What is this under-used, under-appreciated question?
What do I want?
Or the deluxe version:
“What do I want instead?” (of the misery I’m in right now)
Pretty simple, right? And pretty amazing in it’s power to transform our experience.
Have you tried it out? If so, post a comment and let us know what you discovered!

What do I want instead? Why hadn’t I thought of asking myself that? I recently listened to one of your podcasts that mentioned how the average adult takes 7 minutes to eat dinner and much less time to eat a snack. So when I am going for unhealthy foods or snacks, I ask myself…do I want 7 minutes or less of questionable satisfaction…or a lifetime of happiness that does not revolve around food? I am making it a habit to sit at the table and mindfully eat my food…enjoying the flavor and making a note of my level of fullness so that I am focused more on enjoying the flavor and nourishing my body…not binging for that overfull feeling that used to make me feel relieved…for a minute at least. You are a Godsend to me. Listening to your podcast helps me think about what I really want in my life. Thank you for giving that to us.

Instead of instant gratification, I want the satisfaction that lasts. I want to move forward. I want to wake up in the morning and be proud. I want to be able to say to myself that no matter how I feel today, there is a possibility that tomorrow I can feel at least a teeny-tiny bit greater and that it is entirely up to me. So here you go – I chose power over an illusion.

Wow, I love this question SO MUCH! I’ve noticed that just asking it puts me in a positive mindset; I’m allowing myself to explore an endless array of options, and that alone excites me. So I use this question for everything. It’s great for when I’m trying to decide what to eat (and fits right in with the naturally slender eating strategy), but it’s also great for dealing with stress at work, or even deciding which purse to buy! LOL. Thank you for bringing this question, along with so many other wonderful things, into my life. I’m trying to make asking it a habit, so that I’m always conscious of a.) my goals (both long- and short-term), b.) my enlightened selfishness (it is what I want after all!), and c.) my sense of inner alignment. This question helps me self-correct within moments of overeating…and it sometimes stops me from overeating altogether when I’m able to ask it beforehand, and come back into inner alignment. So, what do I want? To make the most out of every situation by asking myself that very question!

Renee: I am sooo happy that you are doing this series on the Law of Attraction and weight loss. I have been listening to every book that Esther & Jerry Hicks have and finding their message transformational — you are adding a whole other depth to my understanding and practice. The magic question helps to point me in the right direction and I love that. I am also learning to turn the “how” over to the universe. So energizing and freeing. Thank you again, and please, please keep helping me to expand on this topic!
