How Have You Learned to Put Yourself First?
Quiz: In the event of an emergency, who’s oxygen mask do we put on first? I read that if the airplane cabin depressurizes, we have approximately 17 seconds to put our own mask on, or we are gonners, and so are those around us who we could have helped.
Episode32 of Inside Out Weight Loss is all about Enlightened Selfishness. In other words, putting our own oxygen mask on first. Post a comment and let me know:
What does putting yourself first make possible for you?
What does it make possible for others?

Putting myself first allows me to enjoy life in a more dynamic way, because I find that I make time for myself to do things that I enjoy and that allow me to reconnect with my body, and getting reconnected means that my awareness is heightened, and I have a much better appreciation for everything I experience in life! It also improves my relationship with others, because I’m generally in a better mood and have more energy! I’ve found that my friends and my boyfriend feel that they can now be more open and honest with me, because before I put myself first, I was often moody and emotional (a combination of bad food choices and not making time for myself!), whereas now I am much more positive and in control of my emotions.

I am finally getting this down into my spirit, and can actually schedule time to do what I need for myself–stop to eat healthily, stop to get enough sleep, stop to get in my exercise. I was never really good about setting my boundaries before. I was a people pleaser, and believed that being a good daughter, wife, mother, sister, or friend meant that I had to put others before myself. The oxygen mask metaphor broke through to me, and I really GOT it, that I can’t be my best anything for others if I have not first taken care of me. I am getting stronger and healthier and more confident daily. With each good choice, I feel more joy in my journey. And each time I slip a little, I do not punish myself with disappointment or thoughts of failure. I am able to say, “Thank goodness I can self correct!” and move on with enjoying my day. No more self-defeating thoughts to deal with. Thank you, Renee!

Ever since putting myself ahead has now let me to make smarter choices (food wise and exercise wise) which then gave more energy to play with my neices and nephews and have more energy to continue the road. Thanks Renée! Your show shines the road really bright to my journey!

I came across your show by accident when I was researching different podcasts that where out there. I was so impress and enjoyed the episode I listened to, I subscribed. I am a coach and also assist people with their fitness and weight challenges. Since everyone needs a coach on at least some point in there life, I have been listening and wanted to let you know your message has influence many others than just your listeners. I borrowed and referenced certain points to help my clients. Not to mention, why I don’t struggle with weight, I am a “busyness” junkie that is always trying to get more done. Your show Selfish Enlightenment had me come to realize how I was really cheating my clients, staff, friends, and mostly definitely my family. After the show, I took a vacation and realized how burned out I was. Thanks Renee for your message and the work towards the legacy you are leaving! I felt so good when I got back I posted a blog comment about your show - http://www.longevitystudios.com/blog/?p=64

This episode really hit home for me. I am a worrier by nature (I think I inherited it from my mom) and I am always worrying about my husbands health. What I really should be concentrating on and believe I am more now than ever (thanks to this show)is MY health. Looking into the future and seeing what I saw in this journey if I don’t start putting myself first wasn’t pretty. I don’t want to be a burden on myself or my husband with limited mobility, high prescription drug bills, surgeries, dr visits, etc!!! I want to live a vibrant and healthy life being able to go anywhere and do anything and not have what I have done to my body by not taking care of it limit me. WOW Renee! This is awesome. Thank you so much!!!!
